The Art of Gratitude
    Gratitude engulfs my conscience,
    In its entirety.
I love to explain the impact
    Which others have.
A smile, wave, nod— my way,
Brings the like, and even a hopeful smile
    for the day ahead.
I don’t understand cruelty and violence,
    I never will.
Would it truly kill for us,
To be polite or to sympathize?
    The lies which seep through,
    The common phrase,
“Sticks and stones, will break my bones—
but words will never hurt me.”
    Emphasized wrongly,
    Bringing spite and increasing strife.
Smile a little, love a little–
    Try, you might like it.
